Hockey, BB and I (Wednesday 9/06/05)
I had a nap, and woke up much later than I thought I would. I missed hockey training and my favorite BB daily update. Sigh. For a while I wondered what else have I missed. It felt like many other things have passed by while I was asleep. Hockey-training time this evening was made an hour earlier than usual. Instead of 7:30pm it was moved forward to 6:30pm. For both cases, it would have already been dark here in Hobart because sun sets at about 4++pm. And according to the Islamic prayer time, Maghrib today was at 4:49pm, so I reckon sun would have set by then.
Anyhow, it’s OK for having missed hockey I thought, for I didn’t tell boyfriend in advanced either that there’s hockey tonight – hockey training is not anywhere in the suburb where uni is located nor in the suburb I’m living in, so I obviously needed someone to get me there. I can drive but thanks to my laziness, for 2 years now it’s still an L-plate, which means I still need a full-license driver as my supervisor to sit next to me as I drive. I know that Josh and some other locals find it amusing that I still haven’t had my driver’s license, besides they think I’m far too old for an L-plate. Perfectly understandable because in Tas almost everyone has a driver’s license once they reach 19. So it’s nothing great having a license amongst Tassies and it’s definitely freaking weird not possessing one after passing a certain age. I remember explaining to Josh how expensive it is to get one in Singapore. Besides, passing a road test is never easy given the fact that most testers are race- and gender biased (well, at least that’s how I perceive things with regards to driving and Singapore).
Anyways, considering my inability to get to places independently, the next person I would look for in taking me to hockey grounds is Lucy but she is not going to hockey tonight (that is if I remembered correctly) because she’s watching a movie with a friend. Anyhow, unsure as I am, I totally forgot to ask her about hockey earlier in the day when I met her up for coffee and to return her John Saffran vs. God DVD at Lazenby’s. So much so for missing hockey training this evening. It made me as guilty as skipping one that is compulsory even though I know that tonight’s training is an optional one due to exams and uni hols.
Anyways, I woke up not only to find myself late for hockey but also late for my favorite TV show, Big Brother. BB has ended by the time I was up. Strangely I didn’t feel like it was compulsory anymore to watch BB these days, I don’t know why but probably because I have missed a couple of the BB daily show due to hockey. Or perhaps I just ceased finding BB that interesting after all considering having spent hours and hours on BB’s live web cam one day during the study period, watching the housemates and realizing that BB in reality is so lengthy, boring, monotonous, and simply less exciting than what has always been shown on TV. But is life in BB house really that boring? And does BB have to put in so much effort to create an exciting TV show to carry on capturing the attention of the nation? That night, for a while I sat up on bed and ponder before finally collecting my bath towel for a long, hot shower.
