Read on…One of My Reasons For Not Liking Malay Men (Saturday 14/05/05)

Najjib’s fried rice was remarkable – but what was more remarkable was actually his cooking performance itself; he appeared confident, professional and very familiar with cooking, given the fact that he’s an ordinary Malay young man. I went over to Najjib’s place this morning to do some group work, basically analyzing the data collected on the recent Coastal Fieldtrip. The first thing I noted when he opened the door to let me in was the cooking aroma that came right up from the kitchen. Little did I think it was him who was cooking because we were supposed to be discussing some stuff, and thought Dan and him were in the midst of discussion. Frankly I even thought it was Diana, a friend of mine who lives with Najjib and is a great cook, was the one in the kitchen. It amused me to discover and watch Najjib cooking. Men from my society, waking up early and cook Nasi Goreng for breakfast? Hell yeah, it’s fricking rare. No doubt have I seen this many times coming from both Western and Japanese men but not from men of my society and to which I consider Malay men in general rather hopeless and lazy. Good on ya, Najjib!
